Polycrystalline Mullite Fiber Board: Rigid, Precise, Built for Heat
2025-11-03
What is Polycrystalline Mullite Fiber Board?
PMF board is formed by wet-process filtration and pressure molding of mullite fibers into a dense, rigid panel. The result is a stable, easy-to-machine board that maintains strength and insulation performance at elevated temperatures.
- Classification temperature: 1200–1900 °C (grade-dependent)
- Form factor: rigid boards, custom shapes/cut parts
- Finish: clean edges, smooth surface, consistent thickness

Why engineers choose PMF board
- Low k, low heat capacity → faster heat-up/cool-down, reduced energy loss
- Thermal-shock resistance → better integrity under cycling and openings
- Erosion & corrosion resistance → durable against hot gas flow and many atmospheres*
- Precision machining → supports slots, holes, countersinks, chamfers
- Lightweight → easier handling and lighter steelwork
* Always validate compatibility with your process media and atmosphere.
Typical applications
- Hot-face or backup insulation in kilns, heat-treat, sintering and glass furnaces
- Burner blocks, peep/observation doors, lintels and door linings
- Baffles, shields and flow guides in high-velocity hot gas areas
- Nonstandard shapes for lab furnaces, thermal analysis equipment and pilot lines
Machining & installation
PMF board cuts cleanly and can be machined to tight tolerances.
Common operations
- Straight and contour cutting
- Drilling/slotting for elements and thermocouples
- Edge chamfers, rebates and step joints
Installation notes
- Dry-fit and mark joints; use step- or shiplap-style seams where possible
- Follow your anchor/fastener layout to limit thermal bridging
- Seal critical joints with compatible high-temp filler where the process allows
- Protect edges during handling; install with expansion allowances
Selecting the right board (what to tell us)
To recommend a grade and construction quickly, share:
- Operating temperature and peaks
- Atmosphere (oxidizing/reducing, dust, vapors)
- Size/thickness and part drawing if custom
- Target density / mechanical needs (load, velocity)
- Quantity & destination / required lead time
Fast track: Send the above and we’ll reply with spec + quote in 24 h.
Quality, packaging & export
- ISO-controlled production with batch records (density, thickness, appearance)
- Moisture-proof wrapping, edge protection and wooden crates for export
- Stock samples available; custom prototypes typically within project timelines
